Frequently Asked Questions

Please find answers to the most frequently asked questions about skip hire below.  If you still require more information or have any further questions then please do not hesitate to call us and speak to a member of our specialist team.

Where Can I keep a skip?
For householders, correct positioning of the skip is vital. A skip needs to allow for a 10ft wide entrance and is up to 12ft long. Most driveways are suitable for skips but thought should be taken to the quality of the surface; as lorries can be heavy.  You may also have exposed drain covers, low branches, or a restricted access. We encourage you to provide us with as much information as possible when ordering your skip.  We can arrange alternative arrangements in the form of our grab hire service if a traditional skip is not be possible due to your location.  Please give us a call if you are unsure.

Do I need a skip permit?
If the skip will not be going on private property and is instead going on a public highway, Titan Waste Solutions will arrange a skip permit for you through your local council, However we don't supply skip lights which are necessary for some councils.

How much access does a skip lorry need?
A skip needs to allow for a 10ft or 3.3m entrance and they can be up to 12ft long.  Most driveways are suitable for skips but thought should be taken to the quality of the surface as lorries can be heavy.  You may also have exposed drain covers, low branches, or a restricted access. We encourage you to provide us with as much information as possible when ordering your skip so that we can brief the lorry driver before arrival.  We can arrange alternative arrangements in the form of our grab hire service if a traditional skip is not be possible due to your location.  Please give us a call if you are unsure.

What size skip should I get?
Skips must not be overloaded. The contents in the skip must not exceed the fill level. This isn’t our own rule to get you to hire a bigger skip – it’s the law! The reason for this is that although we net every skip before moving, if the skip is overloaded items could still dislodge and cause injury to pedestrians or motorists. It may also be too heavy for the lorry to legally lift.

What can I put in a skip?
Environmental legislation restricts these wastes within the skips: asbestos, computer monitors, televisions, aerosols, gas canisters, paint cans, fridges or freezers. Also, a fire must never be started in a skip. However, subject to prior notification we can deal with these waste types for you. Please contact us for further information.

When can you deliver the skip?
Our delivery times are Monday to Friday 06:00 to 18:00 and Saturdays 06:00 to 13:00. We have three times available for delivery and collection, including; First job, AM or PM. Please let us know if you require a dedicated time frame. We can usually offer a same day skip service, but would suggest you give us 24 hours notice to ensure your requirements can be met.

How long can I keep my skip?
Our hire period is usually 14 working days, however in some instances this period can be extended.

How can I pay for my skip hire?
Payment including VAT is payable in advance via the telephone or via bank transfer.

What happens to the waste once the skip has been taken away?
The waste is transported to one of our licensed facilities where it is screened and the waste types are segregated for either recovery or recycling, we are able to continuously achieve recycling rates of over 98%, sending a minimum to landfill.

How do I know the waste will not be fly tipped?
Titan Waste Solutions carry a valid Waste Carriers Licence and operate licensed waste facilities that are strictly monitored and controlled by the Environment Agency.
